We’ve officially finished our first room (ok, a nook) at the Spyglass Farmhouse. It really shouldn’t have taken this long, but you know, shipping challenges. While it was painful to wait almost six months for everything to arrive, we love the final results.

For reference, here’s what the space looked like when we moved in

For the breakfast nook, we wanted something both bright and airy with just a tad of elegance. We didn’t know what that would look like for us, but we figured we would start with the table. After a few weeks of searching, we stumbled on Leanne Ford’s Willy Pedestal Dining Table. It was love at first sight.

The table is just the right amount of modern to counteract our home’s current “southern plantation” vibes without going full RH Modern on the place. Once the table was picked out, we meandered on over to chairs. We bounced back and forth between wood or metal chairs, and in the end, the CB2 Alpha Brass Chairs came out victorious. We loved the playfulness of the woven wire back – they make a statement while giving the table plenty of room to shine.

The light fixture was probably our most “risky” move yet: mixing metals. In all our past homes, we’ve always matched our metals; not sure why; we just felt it was the right thing to do, but we finally felt ready to start mixing things up. Our Instagram friend Kiel used this chandelier light in his dining room renovation, and I’ve been secretly waiting for an excuse to use it – the breakfast nook was the perfect excuse. Once I got Kevin to jump on board my design decision, it was off to the races.

We typically install all our own light fixtures- we’ve been doing it for the past eight years, and we’ve yet to have any incidents. However, the fan we were removing had two switches (light and fan), and we wanted to make sure that the wires that powered the fan were properly blocked off. Sometime in the future, after the cabinets have been painted, those wires will power the island pendants.

Overall, we’re delighted with the results. The breakfast nook is cozy and inviting without feeling too stuffy. And you know what, the plantation shutters are growing on me. Make sure you return for our sitting room reveal in a few days.
